Gender-Expansive Toy Store

Second graders welcomed “shoppers” to browse their classroom toy store.

Teachers’ Letter to “Shoppers"
Dear shoppers/fierce advocates for our students' learning,

We could not begin to thank each of you enough for taking the time out of your Monday to come visit our gender-expansive toy store. The experience of looking around our classroom and observing the children taking full charge of their learning was beyond words! We hope to share our video log of this project-based learning with our partners at Welcoming Schools. They provided us with the inspiration for the beginning lessons, to include "Riley's Rant."

Please find a link to our video log here. So much of the hard work (both intellectual and physical) that went into making today a hit was completed by the children behind-the-scenes and over time. We tried our best to capture as many of those moments as possible. And to think...it is only December! Consider us all-in for continuing to practice the delicate dance of guiding and then following these children as they actualize the change they wish to see in our world.

With love,
Sasha and Azureé

P.S. Special shout-out to our math specialist Luisa for helping us set the kids up for mathematical success.
