GDS Middle School Students Win the ISMAW Math Meet
Seventeen students represented GDS at the Independent School Mathematics Association of Washington (ISMAW) Math Meet on Wednesday, October 17 at Washington Episcopal School. Georgetown Day School earned a first place finish out of 17 participating schools.

Eighth grader Sadie Foer ’23 shared a bit about the team’s success and what to look forward to in the rest of the year for the math team: “We had the advantage of having a lot of 8th graders who were in geometry,” she said. “A lot of the questions were geometry-based and had to do with what we were learning. The team got two perfect scores [of six points by Max Wang ’23 and Ethan Wolin ’23] and two fives [Sadie, Shiv Raman ’23, and Grace Zia ’25] so we came in first place–above Sidwell, which was good because they are usually up there with us.”

At this meet, the top four individual scores are used to tally the team score. If you’ve been doing the math, the GDS team topped the scoreboard with 22 out of a possible 24 points.

“There are other competitions that GDS participates in––another meet in February and then later in the spring––so hopefully we’ll do well at those, too,” Sadie explained. “Then, there are other math competitions that GDS participates in like Math Counts, which is the big one in February.”
