Laurie Wingate

Laurie Wingate joined the board in 2017. She serves on the External Affairs Committee and Facilities Master Planning Committee.

Laurie is the executive director of Raise DC, the District of Columbia's cradle-to-career collective impact organization for DC children and youth. Wingate also serves as a founding board member of the Inspired Teaching Demonstration School, a public charter school that works to improve instruction, build teacher capacity, and ensure the school makes the most of students’ innate desire to learn. She has served on the board of directors of DC Vote and the Little Folks School. She was appointed to the DC Workforce Investment Council where she is currently a member of the executive committee.

Her career began with Teach for America in Oakland, CA where she taught for six years, followed by three years at Robert Brent Elementary School, a DC public school. Laurie graduated from Dartmouth College and received her California teaching credential from UC – Berkeley.

Laurie and her husband, Mark Chandler, have six children between them – Mark’s three children, Julia, Elissa, and Will, and Laurie’s three children, India Cox '18, Quinn Cox, and Nell Cox '23.
