This ensemble performs at various concerts at GDS, the Independent Schools' Choral Festival which occurs each October at the Washington National Cathedral, and offers two outreach concerts at the Village of Rockville Continuing Care Community biannually.

A Cappella groups, coordinated under the title of FORTÉ, include Eat at Joe's, Five O'clock Shadow, New Soul, Notified, and Nuances. Student leaders are charged with creating arrangements of songs, teaching their group, and leading in performances.

Annual concerts include performances on the High School campus, colaboration with the middle school in our annual Winter Concert (held in December), and our farewell event, the aCApicNIC, held each May. GDS alumni have gone on to perform with the Tuft's Beelzebubs, Cornell University Glee Club, TV appearances on House, and on Broadway.

Eat at Joe's

Eat at Joe’s is the original co-ed a cappella group at Georgetown Day School. Started by Vinny Cousineau in the '90s, Eat at Joe's has been a staple at Georgetown Day School since its beginning. Eat at Joes began when four GDS students sang “Duke of Earl” at a GDS variety show. Ever since it’s founding fathers created that sonic alliance of beautiful music, Eat at Joe’s has focused on oldies, pop, and a bright energetic beat! Eat at Joes is now composed of talented high schoolers who arrange all of the music they perform. With the help of our award-winning music director Ben Hutchens, the group has performed at private parties, charity events, and community performances in the DC area.

Notified

Notified captures the true essence of sweet, fluid, young women’s vocals. Whether singing the latest Beyonce hit, or a Supreme's–style oldie, the music is from the heart. In keeping with other a capella groups at GDS, the girls have arranged much of their own music and have also tailored songs to fit like a glove. One of the most recent additions to GDS's a cappella groups, Notified continues to charm the hearts of its audiences, whether at a school function or at area events.

Five O’Clock Shadow

Five O’Clock Shadow, GDS's best (and only) all-male a cappella group, is a world-renowned ensemble of singing gentlemen. They have previously sung on the streets of DC, at GDS events, at a cat show, and at area concerts, dinner parties, and competitions. Their repertoire ranges from classic barbershop to modern pop, often with a twist of schtick and even humor. Recent repertoire included Goodnight Sweetheart, Moondance, I Kissed a Girl, Afternoon Delight, and a host of other fun songs.

NewSoul

NewSoul is Georgetown Day School’s co-ed a cappella group dedicated to bringing the sounds of Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, and Gospel to the GDS community. Founded in the fall of 2009 by Jessie Christian ’10, NewSoul is a diverse group of people with a diverse sound. From Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder to Rolling in the Deep by Adele, NewSoul 's repertoire ranges from classic soul songs to popular R&B songs. This fun, energetic group enjoys performing and entertaining audiences. The group’s instrument-free music brings a soulful sound to GDS. Visit NewSoul's Facebook Page.

Nuances

Nuances is GDS's newest a cappella group, formed in the fall of 2012. Most of the group's music is arranged by current members and alumni. Nuances keeps the fun in a cappella—whether that means singing the latest hits or cancelling rehearsal in preference of a spontaneous dance party. From older songs such as Crazy Little Thing Called Love or Jackie Wilson Said, to newer songs such as Put Your Records On, Nuances' repertoire spans many genres and decades of American music history.
