Shira Wenthe ’27 earned First-Team honors for the inaugural 2025 All-DMV Girls Cross Country Team! This is the first year of the award after the WaPo discontinued its All-Met selections. Additionally, she was a finalist for the DC Gatorade Girls Runner of the Year, as well as earning Second-Team honors from Nike for the Southeast Regional Women’s Team. Currently, Shira holds the GDS school record for women’s running from 800m+. Congrats, Shira!

Several student athletes have set, or nearly set, school records at meets over the last few weeks, including:

  • Andrew Leopold ’26 set the Men’s 300m school record at a meet at Laurel HS a few weeks ago, and repeated that same time this past weekend. Additionally, he ran the fastest 400m relay split in school history last weekend.
  • At the Woodward Relays a couple of weeks ago, the 4x1600 team of Shira Wenthe ’27, Zoe Maas ’26, Alexandra Solomon ’26, and Zoe Wolin ’28 set a new school record.
  • Zoe Phelps ’29 performed a triple jump of 36’3” that is the second longest in school history, and long enough for her to qualify for the Freshman Division at the New Balance Nationals in June.
  • Last weekend at the St. Alban’s mini-meet, our Women’s 4x100m relay team ran the second-fastest time in school history, earning a 2nd overall finish, while the men finished 4th overall.

P.S.Jozi McDuffie ’28 and Liya Fairfax ’28, mentioned last week for their ISL Division AA All-League Team accolades, also earned DCSAA Girls Basketball Class A First-Team and Second-Team, respectively. Congrats, Bugs!
