Lower School Buddy Bench

A new social-emotional scaffolding tool built by kids for kids.
In this morning’s Lower School assembly, the new recess “Buddy Bench” was unveiled. Second graders built this wonderful, social-emotional scaffolding tool designed to help all students be successful at recess. It invites students to self-advocate and show empathy for others. The 3rd grade students prepared a video explaining how to use the bench so that students in pre-K–2nd grades could make the most of this eye-catching new installation.

First, enjoy the Making of the Buddy Bench video, featuring 2nd graders and their teachers and produced by 2nd grade teacher Azureé Harrison. If the sick beats and adorable kids don’t move you, nothing will.

Then, study the How To Use video by the 3rd grade to better understand how the Buddy Bench is used.
