Receiving and Giving Back

GDS Young Men of Color host journalist Philip Lewis and give back to the community.
On Election Day, the Young Men of Color (YMOC) affinity group was visited by Philip Lewis. Philip is a front page editor at The Huffington Post. He spoke to YMOC about being a young man of color in America, specifically his experiences at Michigan State (his alma mater) and in the field of journalism. Student co-leaders Brion White ’19 and Ransom Miller ’19 reflected, “It was great being able to have Philip Lewis speak in our meeting. He shared his experiences being a man of color in a leadership position among co-workers who are primarily white.”

YMOC is also supporting Project Give Back with a canned food drive. “Our goal with the canned food drive,” said Brion and Ransom, “is to be able to supply the larger families that Project GiveBack helps. The baskets that Project GiveBack assembles are made to feed a family for Thanksgiving and a week after. Being able to give the families canned and non-perishable foods will truly help the organization in the long run.”

On Saturday, November 16, Project GiveBack is hosting their 24th Annual Thanksgiving Food Distribution. You can support their efforts by volunteering or donating.
