John Sherman ’93

Founder, Storyfarm
John Sherman graduated from GDS knowing he wanted to be a TV news reporter. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin in 1997, John worked at a series of TV stations for the next 12 years, the last 8 at WBAL in Baltimore. John won a Peabody Award, 16 regional Emmy awards, a National Emmy, and a duPont-Columbia Award, among others.

In 2009 John got tired of standing out in snowstorms, saw HD video for the first time on YouTube. He thought obviously every website is going to have video, and who's going to make all this video? Why can't it be me? So John started Storyfarm. Today, nearly 10 years later, Storyfarm has 13 fulltime employees in Baltimore and creates video content for brands large and small including McDonalds, Pepsi, UPS, Mastercard and T. Rowe Price.
