It will take all of us working together to ensure we prevent the spread of the disease.

We appreciate the support of GDS families in ensuring that all of the students attending school comply with all safety measures. In sending your child to GDS for in-person schooling, including outdoor activities, you commit to the following statements.

We commit to keeping our child(ren) home if sick. You are expected to keep your child home should they have any symptoms of illness, including fever. The DC DOH requires that students stay home for 72 hours following fever.

We commit to alerting the school nurse should our child(ren) or someone in our household tests positive for COVID-19 or is showing COVID-19 like symptoms. If someone is showing COVID-like symptoms or has tested positive for COVID, all members of the home should self-isolate for 14 days to avoid spreading the virus in the community.

We commit to keeping our child(ren) home if exposed to COVID-19 or COVID-like symptoms. If someone in your family or someone with whom your child has been in close contact has received a positive COVID-19 test result in a 14 day-period or is awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test or is showing COVID-like symptoms, DC DOH requires that you remain home until a negative test result is received or have been cleared for release from isolation.

We commit to avoiding unnecessary travel to places where COVID is prevalent and to quarantining for 14 days following travel to states experiencing high rates of COVID-19 transmission. Please see the Mayor’s guidance around states requiring quarantine at coronavirus.dc.gov.

We commit to submitting the at-home screening requested by GDS. This screening will include an evening and day-time temperature check to be completed if your child will be on campus and will ask for your confirmation that the information you are providing is accurate. (Note: You will receive reminders to complete the questionnaire, but you do not need to complete them unless your child will be on campus.)

We commit to following all requirements for health safety at school, including providing our child(ren) with cloth face masks or 3-ply surgical masks consistent with GDS mask guidelines. Please make sure your child knows how to put on and take off the mask and that the cloth face mask fits properly, fully covering the nose and mouth.

We commit to maintaining physical distancing and mask/cloth face covering guidelines outside of school and outside of our immediate family to reduce the risk of bringing the infection to the GDS community. In order to keep the community safe, please refrain from large group gatherings, smaller gatherings where distancing may not be possible, and other high-risk activities. The combination of physical distancing, wearing a cloth face covering, and frequent hand-washing are our greatest ways of reducing viral transmission. If you are in an environment where distancing and masking are not possible, the school reserves the right to ask you to quarantine for 14 days prior to returning to school.

Our Community

The safety and security of everyone in our community—students, staff, and families—is a primary priority and obligation for us as a school.
