Share your Spare: Could A Live Donor Kidney Transplant be the Ultimate “Pay it Forward”?
Have you ever considered giving someone a part of you that isn’t your heart? Take a break from the coronavirus and learn about a positive medical triumph. Dr. Verbesey shares stories and information about one of the greatest gifts a person can give, and also receive benefits back. Live donor kidney transplantation is the gold standard- a living donor kidney starts helping and healing patients in need faster and better than other transplant opportunities. And, non-directed donors can give family members the future benefit of eligibility for a live donation should they need one. It truly can be the gift that keeps on giving and it affects significant change in the lives of everyone involved- recipients and donors.
GDS parent Jennifer Verbesey, MD is the Director of the Living Donor Kidney Transplant program at the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute, the Surgical Director of the Pediatric Kidney Transplant program at Children's National Medical Center, and an assistant professor of surgery at Georgetown University Medical School.
