Melanie has always had a pen and a pad close by so it’s no surprise that her entrepreneurial pursuits involve the same. As founder of huMAN Expressions, a social stationery and communications company, she counts among her highlights designing the 2009 Susan G. Komen® Mother’s Day card and developing the huMAN huGs™ line of greeting cards for breast cancer patients and survivors. In addition to writing website copy for her clients, she is a motivational speaker and writer. Her additional entrepreneurial endeavors include a consultancy with her husband and cofounding Breast Cancer Comfort Site with fellow GDSer, Elizabeth Sargent.

Melanie spent 12 years at GDS, graduating in 1987 from the MacArthur Boulevard high school. A proud Hopper, she has been a member of the Alumni Board, served as Class Co-Chair and Reunion Co-Chair. Melanie spent 15+ years in product management and product marketing roles for mobile and software companies. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the Robert H. Smith School of Business – University of Maryland, College Park. Melanie resides in the Washington, DC area with her husband, Ray; son, Carter; and daughter, Kennedy.
