Leah Daniels, GDS '98, returned to DC after graduating from Carleton College in 2002 with a history degree and stumbled into a job running Riverby Books (a used bookstore at 4th and East Capitol St). After a few years of managing Riverby Books, she decided to go out on her own an open her own business. She combined a love of Capitol Hill, retail, and cooking to open Hill's Kitchen in 2008.
"I fondly remember my GDS teachers—the ones who taught me to think creatively and take risks."
Hill's Kitchen is a gourmet kitchenware store located by Eastern Market that lives the motto - everything for the cook. If you are looking for cheesecloth or tart pans, you will find it there along with an extensive selection of aprons, mixing bowls, and pots and pans. The store has a particular focus on Washington, DC themed products and Leah prides herself on finding fun items to show her love of DC. After almost 10 years (May 17th!!), you will still find Leah behind the counter at Hill's Kitchen every day.
