Laura Wides-Muñoz is an executive editor for News Practices at ABC News. Previously, she worked as VP for Special Projects Fusion, Univision's English-language network for millennials, where she served as a senior editor for Fusion documentaries and digital content such as The Naked Truth's "Wasteland," a look at Scott Pruitt's record on the environment in Oklahoma, and "Trick Shots," an investigation into alleged player trafficking in high school competitive basketball. She also served as director of news practices at Fusion, overseeing editorial standards for Fusion's duPont Award-winning documentary, The Naked Truth: Death by Fentanyl, its Polk Award-winning coverage of the Panama Papers; and its Emmy-nominated documentary, Prison Kids: America's Crime on Children. Laura broke into journalism covering the end of the civil war in Guatemala and has reported throughout Central America and Cuba. She worked for more than a decade at The Associated Press, where she covered she covered national politics, the environment, and the growing political, economic, cultural influence of Latinos in the U.S. Her writing has been published in The Washington Post, The Miami Herald, The Guardian and the Los Angeles Times, among other outlets.
Laura is also the author of The Making of a Dream: How a Group of Young Undocumented Immigrants Helped Change What it Means to be American (Harper Books: 2018), which was a semifinalist for the PEN America/John Kenneth Galbraith award for nonfiction literature. She recently moved back to Washington from Miami with her family and is still mourning the loss of Armand's pizza.
