Jamie Raskin is a U.S. congressman for Maryland's 8th District. Prior to that, he was a three-term Democratic state senator in Maryland and the Senate majority whip. He has been at the center of the breakthrough policy changes Maryland has experienced over the last decade. 

A professor of constitutional law at American University’s Washington College of Law for the last 25 years, Jamie has also taught at Yale Law School and has had thousands of students and authored several books, including the Washington Post bestseller Overruling Democracy: The Supreme Court versus the American People about conservative judicial activism, and the acclaimed We the Students: Supreme Court Cases for and about America’s Students, which has sold more than 50,000 copies. 

Jamie is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review three years before Barack Obama. He graduated from Georgetown Day School in 1979 where he was captain of the soccer team, quarterback of the flag football team, and editor of The Augur Bit

He is deeply involved in promoting chess among children and has been active in Lumina Studio, which is one of the nation’s leading Shakespeare theaters for young people. He and his wife Sarah, who is the deputy secretary of the United States Treasury Department and a former governor of the Federal Reserve Board, live in Takoma Park, Maryland with their three children, Hannah, Tommy, and Tabitha.
