October Town Hall 2018
SUMMARY
 
The Town Hall meeting was held at Georgetown Day School High School. In attendance from Georgetown Day School was Jeffrey Houser and Kristina Lennox. In attendance from DAVIS Construction was Chad Oursler and Tim Fedder. Gary Kressler and Dan Bonilla from GreenBench Companies—the project management team for the construction part of the project—were also in attendance.
 
Major topics of conversation were related to the continued excavation at the site and the overall traffic flow during construction and post-construction. During this period of the project, a large amount of trucks will enter and exit the site with excavated dirt and debris during the allotted DCRA regulated hours. DAVIS will work with its subcontractors to limit the amount of noise during the morning hours as well as place signage to limit the plan of travel for trucks entering and exiting the site to avoid neighborhood streets.
 
Once complete, the unified GDS campus will offer one new entrance/exit from/to River Road NW and one exit only to Ellicott Street NW. The main entrance to the campus will continue to be Davenport Street NW from 42nd Street NW. The River Road NW entrance/exit will be built into the existing High School parking garage, which will not be the main point of entry, but an additional entrance and exit for students and staff. The River Road NW garage entrance will have limited hours of operation. The traffic consultants hired by GDS deemed that traffic flow off of River Road NW will be able to enter from either direction on River Road NW into the parking garage, which is unchanged from the BZA order.
 
GDS and DAVIS remain committed to open communication with the community via continued, monthly Town Hall meetings and routine updates posted on the School Unification section of the GDS website. Updates will include construction activity milestones from the past month and a description of what is expected to occur in the coming month. GDS will also be uploading on a weekly basis, daily photos of the website to create a visual time-lapse of the progress. GDS will follow this routine until the project is completed.
 
Similar to past Town Hall meetings, the objective is to provide an update on the project including the project timeline and additional questions from the neighbors. The Construction Management Plan addresses questions about the construction of the new Lower Middle School at the former Safeway site and is maintained as the current living FAQ.
 
The next scheduled Town Hall meeting will be on Wednesday, November 14, at the Georgetown Day School High School.
