New Families Gathered on Campus

Danny Stock
On September 2, GDS had the honor of hosting new-to-GDS families for a first gathering on the outdoor patio beside the new Lower/Middle School building! After two admissions cycles without a chance to welcome new families in person, we are thrilled to find safe opportunities to bring our community together. Of course, Hurricane Ida had other plans for our LMS gathering, originally scheduled for September 1, but we were glad so many folks had the flexibility to turn out the following (gorgeous) evening for the High School and Middle School-turned-One GDS Welcome Event.
We welcomed first-time GDS’ers, several alumni (now parents), faculty/staff parents, and a handful of grandparents, too.
Thanks to Head of School Russell Shaw, Board of Trustees Chair Lisa Fairfax, and PSA co-chairs Des Bouadi and Nicole Vikan for their remarks, reminding us all why we are here and the joys of the journey ahead. (All four are also GDS parents!)
Thanks to our admissions team for bringing such a wonderful collection of families to the community; the advancement and leadership teams for organizing and hosting; and our GDS Meriwether Godsey Dining team for spoiling everyone with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.
Since that early September gathering, GDS has played host to a pop-up social gathering of 9th and 10th grade families on the patio as well as friends, families, and fans for numerous on-campus athletics games. This Saturday, September 25, we will once again welcome families and fans for Sports Saturday (10:00-4:00 PM), alumni to a patio social gathering (5:00-7:00 PM), and the Tenleytown neighborhood for Art All Night (7:00-Midnight). We hope to see you and your family soon!
