Three essays from four GDS High School students were accepted for publication by the prestigious JUHE Supplement, a top national journal that primarily accepts pieces submitted by university students. From the 119 submissions from 34 programs, 42 essays were selected. In the past three years, 11 GDS student essays have been accepted for publishing. Congratulations to Ava Blum ’23, Alex Arioti ’21, Alistair Simmons ’21, and Reuben Charles ’21—whose pieces will be published in early May 2021—as well as to their teacher Min Wang.

GDS competed against John R. Lewis High School and The Potomac School in the first round of It’s Academic on Sunday, January 10, 2021. The Zoom version of the game involved no buzzing—a skill players typically work to hone for competition—and lots of time waiting in breakout rooms. In the end, GDS finished in second place behind John R. Lewis High School and missed winning the whole thing by one question.
Despite how different the format was, the GDS It’s Academic team worked hard and played well! Congratulations to Arthur Delot-Vilain ’21 (captain), Celia Johnson ’21, and Caleb Rosenman ’21 for all their hard work. Also, thanks to Pierce DeCain ’22 and Ethan Wolin ’23 (alternates) as well as Abe Pachikara and Sue Ikenberry (coaches) for coming to support the team!
Thanks to Min Wang and Abe Pachikara for sending these updates.
