Georgetown Day School opened its doors in 1945 as the first integrated school in a segregated city. Georgetown Day School seeks a Pre-Kindergarten Teaching Assistant to support lead teachers and students’ on-campus for the 2021-2022 school year. The teaching assistant will work closely with the lead teachers to ensure a joyful and safe learning environment. 

GDS teaching staff:

  • Understands that Preschool is a time of remarkable physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. 
  • Demonstrates the ability to create a safe, collaborative learning environment in alignment with GDS's mission and values. 
  • Engages students in a variety of tasks that promote academic and social-emotional learning opportunities. 
  • Assists in planning lessons and preparing instructional materials. 
  • Supervises and/or differentiates lessons for individuals or small groups of students. Conducts planned lessons with assigned groups in the classroom or other assigned educational location. 
  • Assists in explaining the subject matter to students. Supports the homeroom teacher/s as needed with administering assessments and review, correct and re-review assignments. 
  • Prepares, operates, and maintains instructional equipment and supplies. May also procure and store such equipment. Supports the homeroom teacher/s with the issue of various supplies and equipment to students. Maintains necessary records pertaining to instructional equipment and supplies. 
  • Commits to leveraging technology, in support of learning.
  • Demonstrates the ability to respond positively and restoratively to student needs.
  • Assists staff with student supervision. 
  • Abides by school health and safety protocols. Reports disciplinary problems and injury incidents to the proper supervisor.
  • Maintains appropriate experience. 
  • Demonstrates a shared commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Performs related duties as required

Reporting to the HS Principal, this position works as part of the HS administrative team and in close collaboration with the Director of Student Life and Wellness. This position will carry a 50% course release and will also pick-up 2-3 sections of 9th Grade Seminar.
