Part-Time Nurse for GDS 360, Break Camp, and Summer Programs

Georgetown Day School opened its doors in 1945 as the first integrated school in a segregated city. Governed by a Board of Trustees elected by the parent body and administered by an appointed Head of School, it was founded by seven families who wanted to create a school committed not only to academic excellence and educational innovation but also to a value system emphasizing appreciation and respect for others. Believing that diversity was the ground out of which all deep and rich learning occurs, they established a school where all children would be welcome, celebrated, and challenged to be their best selves.

Today, the School's philosophy, programs, and position in the national educational landscape strongly reflect its roots. Having grown from 12 children in 1945 to 1075 students in PK-12 today, GDS is recognized as one of Washington, D.C.’s and the nation’s most dynamic educational institutions.

Position Summary
We are seeking a part-time nurse to support our Auxiliary Programs. Georgetown Day School’s GDS 360 Extended Day Program provides a daily enrichment opportunities for students in grades PK-8th grade throughout the duration of the school year. On average about 180 students participate in GDS 360 per day. During the summer, GDS runs various camps and classes for students ages PK-12th grade for about 9 weeks, serving between 30 and 100 children a day. In addition, GDS runs school break camps on days when school is not in session for teacher work days and over some holiday breaks. Ideally, the nurse would also work occasional break camps. While the nurse’s  primary responsibility is to provide direct health care to the student participants, we are fortunate that the afternoon and summer has often been a quiet time from a student-health perspective. When the nurse is not actively providing health care, we will ask that they serve as an additional supervisor for children in the daily activities where injuries are most likely to occur and/or to support the program in administrative capacity as needed.
