When an e-mail virus is lurking in cyberspace, attachments are a real challenge for e-mail systems. Most people are not too attentive to anti-virus software updates and may have a virus-infected computer for three to four days before they get feedback from others or their computer crashes.
You can help GDS by doing two things.
- Make sure that your e-mail program sends out e-mail as text, not as HTML documents. Although it may seem that you are sending text messages, your program may be set to translate your text message to html. This setting is usually in the preferences or tool section of your e-mail program.
- If you have something to send to a teacher or administrator, cut and paste the information into a regular e-mail message rather than sending it as an attachment. (See #1 about settings.) Simple e-mail text messages are far easier for people to read and less time-consuming. Use attachments for times when formatting really counts.
These are probably good recommendations to follow for all of your e-mail correspondence.
