Fun rides, games, cool prizes, cotton candy, and Bottlemania! A rock climbing wall, a batting cage, a moon bounce! GDS logo gear! Ben's Chili, quesadillas, burgers, and dogs from the grill! Yummy international foods and the sweetest bakery in town! Be there! All proceeds benefit GDS Student Financial Aid.

• Bake a sweet treat and deliver it Friday, October 17, to the Multipurpose Room—all sweets are welcome!
• Prepare a special dish to share at International and Gourmet Foods. These items can be delivered on Saturday, October 18, at any time before 11 a.m.
• Bring in used books, DVDs, CDs, videos, and the like to contribute to the Used Books section. We'll take donations for this time-honored tradition until October 16.
• Return your Bottlemania bottles and Quilt Raffle tickets as soon as possible to GDS! The beautiful quilt is on display in the L/MS lobby. (HS Parents: If you would like to purchase Quilt Raffle tickets, contact Cathy Strong at tcstrong@starpower.net.)

Thank you, Sue and Jessica
Sue Cohn ’76 and Jessica Gladstone coordinated a picture-perfect day for gleaning! About 30 GDSers showed up at Miller Farm to pick ("glean") vegetables left in the fields after the farmer has harvested the crop. Sue reports that the gleaners provided 800 pounds of collard greens (800 to 1000 servings) for the National Capital Food Bank and local food kitchens.
Sue and Jessica also collected your generous school-supply donations and delivered them to Raymond Elementary School and to the GDS HS KidPower tutors. What's next for this tireless duo? Gently used Halloween costumes—see next! |
 |
WANTED: Used Halloween Costumes
Outgrown dress-up items welcome, too. A collection box will be in the L/MS lobby Friday, October 10, through Friday, October 24. Contributions will be given to KidPower, a wonderful local youth organization. GDS HS students and faculty provide weekly tutoring, an arts program, and a program on social justice for KidPower kids.
Questions? Contact Sue Cohn at LBNovey@aol.com or Jessica Gladstone at JRGladstone@verizon.net. |

Cross-Country Fans
The GDS cross-country teams will compete in the DC & Maryland Cross-Country State Championships Meet for Private Schools on Saturday, November 8, at the Montgomery County Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood, MD, a few miles from the Shady Grove Metro Station. GDS needs to provide six or so volunteers to oversee parking from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., mostly in the earlier hours when the crowds are arriving. There should be ample opportunities to observe the GDS teams in the varsity, JV, and MS races. If interested in volunteering for some or all of the time, please contact HS cross-country coach Anthony Belber at 202-295-6196 or abelber@gds.org. |
