The After-School Program (ASP) operates daily from the end of classes until 6:00 PM, including Wednesdays when classes end an hour early. Also, ASP provides care until 6:00 PM on the two days during the year when school is dismissed at noon. Please note that ASP does not operate on days when GDS is officially closed, including vacations, conference days, staff in-service days, and when the School is closed due to inclement weather.
Lower School
The After-School Program for the Lower School offers students a variety of indoor
and outdoor activities in an exciting and caring atmosphere. Regularly scheduled
activities include such enrichment classes as art, cooking, drama, dance, the
Gazette Club newspaper, and fitness. Details regarding these activities will be
distributed once an enrollment contract is received. In addition to these activities,
we also offer a quiet and supervised area in the library for those students
with homework. All students in grades 3–5 who are enrolled in the ASP program
attend one-hour of Study Hall. After receiving a nutritious snack, students go to
the library from 3:30–4:30 PM (2:30–3:30 PM on Wednesdays) where they
are supervised by Lower School teachers. When Study Hall ends, students may
participate in other ASP activities.
Middle School
The Middle School After-School Program begins with a quiet, one-hour Study
Hall, which includes a nutritious snack and access to the main computer lab
and library. Study Hall, supervised by Middle School faculty, takes place in two
classrooms from 3:30–4:30 PM for students who are not participating in sports,
and 4:00–5:00 PM for students who are participating in sports. On Wednesdays,
because there are no scheduled athletics, Study Hall is scheduled from
2:30–3:30 PM
Students remaining after Study Hall (5:00 PM) are considered regular participants
of the After-School Program. As such, they can participate in various other
ASP scheduled activities such as art, iMovie, cooking, drama, basketball, dance,
the Gazette Club newspaper, or fitness. Detailed information regarding these
activities will be provided after your student has been enrolled.
