Andrew Sean Greer '88 at Politics and Prose on June 5
Greer will read from his newly released novel, A Story of a Marriage, on Thursday, June 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Politics and Prose at 5015 Connecticut Avenue, NW in Washington. Join fellow GDS alumni and fans and welcome Andy back to D.C. to celebrate his novel, which has been featured on NPR and The Today Show. The Story of a Marriage is set just after World War II in San Francisco and is about a young woman who marries the idol of her Southern childhood and tries to figure out what her marriage is really about. Alumni Association Hosts 10th Annual Senior/Parent Breakfast
The Board of the Alumni Association hosted the 10th Annual Senior/Parent Breakfast on Wednesday, May 28 in the High School Library. Head of School Peter Branch welcomed Michael Ward '82, Vice President of the Alumni Board, who spoke about the importance of staying connected to fellow classmates and to GDS. Alumni Gather for Financial Aid Fundraiser in Washington
Local area GDS alumni attended a financial aid fundraiser at Ceviche Glover Park on Tuesday, May 20. The venue was generously donated by current GDS parents and Ceviche owners Nesrin Abaza and Mauricio Fraga-Rosenfeld. Every dollar raised at the event went directly to the student financial aid fund.


Terence Carter '97 Promoted to VP at NBC
NBC announced the promotion of Terence Carter '97 to Vice President of Drama Programming in April. Carter, who began his television programming career as an intern on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, has been at NBC since 2005.

Jamie Raskin '79 Named Smartest Lawmaker in Maryland
A Maryland politics blog, PolitickerMd.com, named freshman State Senator Jamie Raskin '79 as the smartest lawmaker in the state house. The blog held a week-long online contest to name the smartest politician. Jamie was elected state senator in 2006 and represents the 20th district, which includes portions of Silver Spring and Takoma Park.


Student Author Michael Perlman '09 Releases Cookbook
Michael Perlman '09 has written and published Cookies for Breakfast: A Teen's Not So Bad Guide to Wheat- and Gluten-free Baking, the culmination of three years of work, featuring more than 100 pages of original and adapted recipes for cookies, cake, pies, muffins, breads, and other yummy, wheat- and gluten-free baked goods. Cookies for Breakfast is currently available locally for $15.95 at Yes! Organic Market in Cleveland Park, Politics and Prose, and directly from the author (e-mail cookiesforbreakfast15@yahoo.com). Profits from the cookbook will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and for Celiac Disease Research.
