GDS Presents "An Evening with John Amaechi"
Join us for an evening with John Amaechi, former NBA Player and author of the best-selling autobiography Man in the Middle on Wednesday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. at the High School. Mr. Amaechi was the first NBA player to come out as a gay male. He will discuss issues of gender, sexual orientation, and inclusion in sports.

Alumni To Host Fundraiser for Financial Aid
The GDS Alumni Board is planning a fundraiser that will directly support student financial aid. Gather with fellow alumni and friends at Ceviche in Glover Park on Tuesday, May 20 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. for wine and tapas. Be on the lookout for an invitation by e-mail soon!

Alumni Receptions in California
Alumni living and working in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas gathered together for two receptions in March to re-connect with fellow classmates. Former High School french teacher Charles Psychos also attended the receptions and greeted alumni.

"Becky Shaw" by Gina Gionfriddo '87 at Humana Festival
According to the New York Times, "Becky Shaw" was the "heat-generating event" of the Humana Festival of New American Plays. Gina's first play "After Ashley" opened at the festival in 2004 and "U.S. Drag" just completed a tour Off Broadway. The Times calls this play "a saw-toothed wit and a seductive interest in exploring the rewards and responsibilities of emotional interdependence."

Andrew Sean Greer '88 Set to Release New Book
The Story of a Marriage is Greer's fourth novel and details an early 1950s love triangle which Amazon calls "a poignant account of people helpless in the throes of passion and an affirmation of the strength of the human spirit." The book is set for release on April 29. Greer is scheduled to appear at various locations for readings, including a June 7th event at Politics & Prose in Washington, D.C.

Spring Show: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Alumni are invited to attend A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. This classic musical comedy combines 2000-year-old comedies by the Roman playwright "Plautus" and the infectious energy of vaudeville, and is sure to delight audiences of all ages. The music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim. Spring show performances are April 17, 18, 24, 25, and 26 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday matinee on April 26 at 2:00 p.m.

Support GDS's Online and Live Auctions!
Each year, GDS hosts an Auction to raise money for financial aid and student programs. The Online Auction will begin on Friday, April 25 and will close on Sunday, May 4. Live Auction invitations were mailed last week. Online RSVPs are being taken until May 1. Help support GDS by bidding on online items and attend the Live Auction on Saturday, May 10!

Alumni Board Is Seeking Internships for Students
The GDS Alumni Board wants to hear from alumni who can provide leads to upcoming internships that current GDS students may qualify for.
