13th Annual After-Prom Party and Breakfast
Sponsored by the Parent Service Association
@ the High School
Friday, June 3, 2005
1:00-5:00 AM
Students need to arrive before 2:00 AM in order to be admitted.
The GDS After-Prom is an alcohol- and drug-free environment. Students who arrive under the influence will not be permitted to enter. They will, however, be detained, and their parents will be called to pick them up.
There will be changing rooms and a monitored clothing check throughout the event. Students should bring a change of clothing in order to enjoy the festivities in comfort. Gym bags or other carry-alls may be subjected to search as students enter the building. Inappropriate items will be confiscated.
Students may leave the After-Prom at any time. However, once a student leaves the premises, he or she will not be permitted to return. Students are required to check out on leaving.
Students should remember to carry their GDS ID cards on the evening of the Prom and After-Prom. While the District of Columbia's general curfew remains in effect, we have notified the Metropolitan Police of the date and times of our event. If a student stopped by an officer offers his or her ID, that officer will know, or easily can verify, where that student has been or is going. Note, however, that if (for example) a student leave the After-Prom at 3:00 AM and is stopped at 4:30 AM, her or she will not be able to rely on the event to establish his or her whereabouts for the intervening time period.
Students and their parents may wish to consider parking a car on campus (with clothing changes stored in it) earlier in the day. Making this alternative provision for transportation home will alleviate concerns about incurring over-time charges for rented limousines. Students are encouraged to form carpools so that no one need drive home alone. Drivers must be prepared to be patient and to wait until all of their riders are prepared to leave. Please do not pressure your riders to leave the party early: it affects everyone's chance of having a good time.
A SPECIAL WARNING TO PARENTS: In the past few years, unscrupulous limousine drivers have taken advantage of students who paid their bills in cash; in one instance, students paid the driver on arriving at the Prom, and that driver then departed -- stranding them without a ride to the After-Prom and without their changes of clothes (which they had left in the limousine). Drivers should be paid by credit card whenever possible, and should be clearly instructed that their passengers will be going on to the After-Prom at the High School after the dance.
We all look forward to a wonderful evening.
