Sustainability and Climate Change Policy

POLICY STATEMENT ON SUSTAINABILITY AND CLIMATE CHANGE

GDS is committed to creating a healthy and sustainable environment, where today’s actions do not jeopardize those of future generations. In particular, we recognize that climate change poses a significant challenge to the long-term well-being of our students, our community, and the world. We recognize that our school community has an important role in contributing to a resolution of these challenges. We seek to act, inspire and lead in our response to sustainability challenges, including climate change, by:

  1. Equipping our community members with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand, and develop solutions for, environmental challenges;

  2. Understanding the sustainability impact of our own activities. We recognize that the knowledge, science and technology relating to sustainability continue to evolve and we are committed to staying current on the latest developments;

  3. Implementing achievable ways to (a) minimize our own adverse environmental footprint, including our climate impacts, and (b) reverse or neutralize adverse environmental activities of others;

  4. Fostering greater awareness throughout the broader GDS community of sustainability challenges and solutions;

  5. Applying our community’s experience and expertise where it can be of value; and

  6. Providing transparent information on our progress to ensure broad awareness throughout our community.
