7th Grade Rebuilding Together Family Wish List

November 29, 2007

Dear Seventh Grade Parent,

Throughout the year, students at GDS participate in a variety of community service experiences. In this season of the year, we reach out to those in need. On Tuesday, Janice Stango from Rebuilding Together talked with the seventh grade about the housing crisis and the desperate situation of some families living in Washington, DC. This December, the seventh grade joins the Holiday Gift-Giving Project by furnishing necessities for the home of a Rebuilding Together client, a single parent of ten children. This family's needs are great. Their home is in disrepair and they need some major appliances. They also are in desperate need of basic housewares such as towels, linens and dishes. We hope to provide some of these items, as well as much needed clothing and a holiday gift for each of the children.

There are several ways in which we can help:

  1. Students may contribute to the purchase of holiday gifts for the children. Each student may contribute five dollars by Friday, December 7, 2007. Small groups of students within each advisory will be assigned to purchase a specific item. The designated shoppers should bring in their purchases by Monday, December 17, 2007. We ask everyone to send in wrapping paper, tape and ribbon on Monday the 17th. Students will wrap the gifts in school and make a card for the family.
  2. Students will organize a food drive. We would like contributions of non-perishable nutritious food so that we can help the family start the holidays with a full pantry.
  3. GDS families are invited to look at the list of items that are needed and contribute new or gently-used items. You will find the list below and on the GDS website. Please contact Sarah Keegan (Sarahgrace100@aol.com) or Janice Barksdale (jabarksdale@uspis.gov) before purchasing an item. All items need to be in school by the end of Monday, December 17, 2007.
  4. GDS families are invited to make a donation to a fund to be used for appliances and repairs. Please make your check out to Georgetown Day School, noting a Rebuilding Together donation. We will collect all the checks and deliver the money to Rebuilding Together. Checks may be brought to the Middle School Office.

Please join us in sharing and caring at GDS.

Sincerely,

The Seventh Grade Advisors
