About GDS

GDS is a PK-12 independent school located in Washington, DC founded in 1945 as an integrated school in a segregated city. GDS offers an educational program that fosters a love of learning while providing serious instruction in the academic disciplines, the arts, and physical education and athletics.

Today, the School's philosophy and goals strongly reflect its roots. Maintaining a diverse community of students, teachers, and parents continues to be a primary objective of the School's administration and Board of Trustees. Committed to fostering the intellectual, ethical, and spiritual dimensions of its students' lives, GDS encourages respect for the variety of beliefs represented in the student body.

Toward these ends, GDS is supported by an active diversity program that includes, among other things, parent diversity discussions about GLBT issues, celebration of GLBT Pride Day in grades PK-12 as well as both parent and student Gay-Straight Alliances.
