On this site we present information that will be of interest to families who are considering a GDS education for their children and to current Georgetown Day School students, parents, staff, and alumni. Please take a few minutes to find something that interests you.
GDS offers an educational program that fosters a love of learning while providing serious instruction in the academic disciplines, the arts, and physical education and athletics. Over the past six decades, GDS has grown from a school of seven students to a pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade school with more than 1,000 students and a faculty of 165 on two separate five-acre campuses in Washington, DC.
While circumstances of today are not the same as those of 1945, the needs of children and the importance of an equitable and excellent educational environment are as compelling as they have ever been. GDS seeks to enroll students and families who are committed to the mission of the School and who will be positive and cooperative members of the community.
Georgetown Day School does not separate preparation for college from preparation for life. The process of education instructs our students as powerfully as the educational information which is imparted. The School’s commitment to an education for character has made GDS unique and a model for others. We are proud of our history, the quality and breadth of our educational programs, and, most important, of the articulate, self-confident, and responsible citizens our students become.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our website.

Georgetown Day School Mission Statement
Georgetown Day School honors the integrity and worth of each individual within a diverse school community. GDS is dedicated to providing a supportive educational atmosphere in which teachers challenge the intellectual, creative, and physical abilities of our students and foster strength of character and concern for others.
From the earliest grades, we encourage our students to wonder, to inquire, and to be self-reliant, laying the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.
